Brooklyn Frank was diagnosed with ALL Leukemia in January, 2011. She is joined by her parents, Mike and Kristin, brother, Braden, and sisters, Kayla and Kelsey, in her fight against this disease. She continues to receive treatment each week and we look forward to celebrating the day she is cancer free. Brooklyn’s courageous spirit has inspired so many through this journey. We will post updates on this site as we get new information. We appreciate all of your prayers and support!

Busy Days
We've had a good start to our week. Monday was pretty much filled with taking kids to school, picking them back up and Kayla had her first swim lesson of the season and did great! Brooklyn is feeling really pretty good, up and moving around just fine and having quite a bit of energy for the minuscule appetite that she has. Mike figured out that if he mixes her new pill with his chocolate protein shake, she likes it & takes it without a problem, so that is great! It looks like she is having some kind of skin reaction to either the cleaning product we use to clean her Broviak site or the tape that covers it, so we are going to have to start using different stuff to clean it. The down side of the new method is it also means we have to change her dressing 3 times a week rather than once because the cleaning product isn't as strong as the other kind, so it doesn't last as long. Hopefully it won't bother her as much though. Her surgery went well this morning. It is funny because we wanted to have the morning appointments so desperately so she wouldn't have to fast as long, and now she isn't ever hungry anyway! Megan the music therapist was there again so we played some songs with her and did a puzzle while we waited for her appointment. She did great with the anesthesia again and the doctor got her spinal fluid out really quickly. I asked him about her getting the fevers and he said that it could be a side effect from the chemo, so that made me feel better - that it isn't necessarily because we have gone out a couple times and that has caused her fevers. Hopefully we won't have a trip to the hospital again this week! We are going to have to make a trip to the store tomorrow to buy a gate to block the stairs since our sweet little Kelsey has learned quickly how to climb them! It's always busy around here for sure! But that's how we like it. :)

tee hee! sweet to think of Little Kelsey climbing already! : )
ReplyDeleteCRAZY how Brookie went from being starving 24/7 to eating little to nothing. Reassuring that the protocal is so familiar to the docs.
I am glad to know that the fevers are all part of the process...NOT because you have the occasional outside day!
xxooxxoo
Great to see you had a THUMBS UP kind of day!
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing to see the appetite change for Brooklyn. The protein shake does suppress the appetite but great to know this helps with taking the new pill. Of course, chocolate flavor doesn't hurt! Hurray for CHOCOLATE!
Looks like BUSY IS GOOD HERE! :)
