Brooklyn Frank was diagnosed with ALL Leukemia in January, 2011. She is joined by her parents, Mike and Kristin, brother, Braden, and sisters, Kayla and Kelsey, in her fight against this disease. She continues to receive treatment each week and we look forward to celebrating the day she is cancer free. Brooklyn’s courageous spirit has inspired so many through this journey. We will post updates on this site as we get new information. We appreciate all of your prayers and support!

Pizza never tasted so good!
I have never liked hospital shows. I get too attached to the characters and then get sad if something bad happens, and they are always filled with drama. Part of me felt like we were in one of them today. Brooklyn did great this morning getting her platelets and her chemo. She was hungry, but was very patient and we watched a movie. When we went to the surgery center, there was a lot of waiting which was tough b/c she was soooo hungry. She told everyone she saw that she wanted to eat "petaroni pizza" when she was done. When we finally got called back a little after 1:00, we got to go in the surgery room with her. It was so weird b/c everyone was just kind of talking about their weekend or their family, and here we were, sitting there, wrapped up in the fact that our little girl laying on the table has cancer and was in their hands. It is our whole world right now, and for them, it was just another procedure. It took three times for the doctor to get a good draw from her spine, which was hard to watch - those are big needles. Her heart rate was really low during the surgery & afterward, so now our doctor wants us to see a cardiologist to make sure there aren't any other problems going on. I am emotionally exhausted. I don't want anything else to be wrong. Brooklyn couldn't wait to eat, so we ate pizza in the hospital cafeteria & she was so happy. The highlight of my day was playing Twister with the kids tonight. It was so much fun. We have received so many cards and gifts for Brooklyn and for our whole family over the last week and we are overwhelmed with the generosity and heartfelt messages from so many family and friends. Your prayers and thoughtfulness are more than we could have ever hoped for and we are so grateful.

Love the petaroni pizza! Will always think of Brooklyn whenever I hear "pepperoni pizza". So glad you guys had a fun night after such a long day. Brooklyn is such a trooper and you and Mike are amazing! Continued prayers from the Condons...
ReplyDeleteKristen and Mike, you are in our prayers - always. Brooklyn has such strength and both of you, too. My brother-in-law has leukemia (although a different kind) and he is in total remission. The same thing - massive chemo in the beginning to kill all the cancer cells and "maintenance" later. There is always hope and I believe that God is watching over all of you. Keep your faith and look up!
ReplyDeleteLove, Eva
Surreal experience for sure...and making a hungry baby WAIT in surgery center...augh!! and then three tries to get good draw! I know we are all 100% in our faith and knowledge that Brooklyn will be well...but to have to go though the impatient times like THAT...augh!!! How amazing to be patient and calm during the wait. WHADDA GAL AND WADDA MOM AND DAD!
ReplyDeleteBrookyn's heart is FINE! I know this! Too much medication on her poor empty tummy!!!!
We love you all--our arms are around you!!! Kathy
Pass the high fives to Brooklyn for getting through those treatments and enduring the no eating/drinking times!
ReplyDeleteAnd that smile and pizza sauce on cheeks is priceless. Definitely looks like a thumbs up moment! She is a CUTIE! Looks like Brooklyn was enjoying every bite! Good for her! She definitely deserved every bite!
Praying for His strength and His peace each day for you all and that all is well for Brooklyn's heart.
Also, thank God for Twister. That is a great game to play with your kids...as long as your back and limbs don't go out! So happy you had a great moment playing it with your children! I know they had fun having Mommy join in! Hope Daddy was able to get in too. I can hear all the joy and laughter that graced your home!
I agree with the above as well. Pepperoni pizza will have a SPECIAL meaning as of today, as "petaroni pizza" by Brooklyn!
ReplyDeleteThanks Brooklyn for the CUTE renaming of this popular, classic pizza! You may have a future in marketing! I think it is a very catchy name.
